If you are a UW undergraduate and want to get involved with research, all postings for the Coastal Ecogeomorph lab will be posted through the UW Oceanography website and posted here. All jobs in Dr. Valentine's lab are paid or for credit.

Graduate Students

​

I am likely to recruit one graduate student this upcoming cycle (for a start of Fall 2027). Although I would love to meet with all potential students, I receive many emails for potential graduate students each year and I am unable to meet with everyone! I am primarily interested in students focused on:

- quantitative salt marsh or mudflat geomorphology (inlcuding modeling and field work)

- understanding the physical and geological dynamics associated with intertidal aquaculture and impacts on the carbon cycle

- lab experiments focused on small-scale processes of mud entrainment and bio-physical interactions at the threshold of motion (biofilms).

When I read through applications, which undergo a holistic review within the School of Oceanography, I am looking to see what in research excites you, if you have had previous research experience, and why you want to go to graduate school.

 

Additionally, the School of Oceanography accepts students only to the PhD program (with some exceptions) and we typically do not offer a terminal Masters. When applying, I suggest that you select "Marine Geology and Geophysics" as the area of study/branch of oceanography for most direct routing of your application to me.

Interested in postdoc-ing here? I'm happy to discuss proposal ideas, etc but do not currently have funding to take a postdoc.
